What LUMIX Lab is
LUMIX Lab is Panasonic's free companion app for iPhone, Android, and Mac and Windows desktop. It does three main jobs: it moves LUTs onto your camera wirelessly, it lets you create your own LUTs, and it edits your RAW photos. For most shooters it is the quickest way to get a new look onto the camera without touching an SD card.
Loading a LUT with LUMIX Lab
To put a look on your camera with the app:
- Import the .cube file into LUMIX Lab, from your Files or camera roll.
- Pair your camera to the app over Wi-Fi, or connect by cable.
- Send the LUT to the camera; it lands in the LUT Library.
- On the camera, set Photo Style to Real Time LUT and pick your look.
It is the wireless alternative to the SD card method, handy when you are out shooting and want a new look on the spot.
Creating a LUT from a photo (Magic LUT)
The app can also build a brand-new LUT for you. Its AI Magic LUT feature takes any reference photo, a JPEG or HEIF, and it does not even need to be shot on a LUMIX, and generates a matching .cube LUT. You can then fine-tune the result, adding grain, colour noise, sharpness and noise reduction, before saving it or sending it to the camera. It is a fast way to turn a look you love into something you can shoot with, though hand-built LUTs like ours are tuned more precisely than an automatic match.
LUMIX Lab or an SD card?
Both get a LUT onto the camera; pick whichever suits the moment.
| LUMIX Lab app | SD card | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed on location | Fast, wireless | Needs a card reader |
| Setup | Pair once over Wi-Fi | No pairing |
| Also lets you | Create LUTs, edit RAW | Nothing extra |
| Best when | Out shooting, no computer | At the desk, or no app |
Using it with LumiLUTs
Every LumiLUTs look is a standard .cube, so you can load it either way: import it into LUMIX Lab and send it over, or drop it on an SD card. The install guide walks through both, and the file that ships with your purchase includes the recommended in-camera settings for each look.
